Originality is really very common -
Unique names do not make people unique - it makes them annoying. Because people have to learn to say and spell the name, and try to remember it so they don't offend your cleverly-named progeny.
And don't be thinking an odd name is a good conversation starter. It's just a distraction - a very bothersome distraction. Still, most people will lie and say, "Oh, that's a very, interesting name," when they're really thinking someone's parents must live in the woods.
Get creative with the middle name -
Most of the above rules don't apply to middle names. You can get away with almost anything. This is your chance to use an old family name, like Bertha, Hazel, or Melvin. If you have a rule-breaking first name that you can't resist inflicting on your child, at least hide it in the middle. Or give it to a pet.
Your child's journey through life will be smoother with a traditional first name, one with standard spelling and pronunciation. Avoid the regret, remorse, and eventual resentment of a bad baby names. Your kids will thank you, and other people won't think you live in the woods.
